create project tags for date related issues at Wikidata
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

T87764: Bugs related to time datatype (tracking) seems terribly long and difficult to go through. It combines questions of varying topics and degrees of complexity. Some are relevant to users others less so.

Could we attempt to do a series of project-tags for issues that seem to be connected. It would also make it easier to identified tickets where such issues were already discussed.

All Tracking-Neverending tasks are sooner or later going to be transformed to more appropriate form (own tag is one example), so it is on the radar. However, Wikidata has bunch of those around as well as bunch of its own existing subprojects and it will need more complex and detailed overview before any action is going to be taken.

"tag" is listed as a valid option on https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Phabricator/Project_management#Types_of_Projects

It doesn't seem to be incompatible with the same task being part of other components (sooner or later).

Could you do two "personal" tags instead?

That's what I mentioned earlier.

It doesn't seem to be incompatible with the same task being part of other components (sooner or later).

Nobody said that. Again, the deal is the entire Wikidata pile needs review. And until that is done, I hesitate to create new tags for that without further exploration to prevent mingling with tasks there and back round and round.

Could you do two "personal" tags instead?

Please elaborate, what you mean exactly.

These tags are just focusing on different user views of specific tasks. If subprojects for Wikidata are created, these are likely to be broader in scope. This is unlikely to affect these tags.

"Personal" seems to be another option on the list above. If the general preference is to avoid "tag" for now.

Again: We are not speaking about projects and subprojects only but also about bunch of various tracking tasks which needs to be converted. There are some other tracking tasks about other data types. So hopefully for the last time: Until the complex review is done, it does not make a sense to convert a single tracking task standalone.

Active users may have their own personal project to have the personal workboard (cf. T555: Per-user projects for personal work in progress tracking). One. This does not apply to converting tracking tasks.

Proposing to decline this task as long as Wikidata folks have not expressed interest in this project tag to eliminate T87764 and organize their work. (As Danny_B wrote, tracking tasks shall get converted into projects in a perfect world, but that conversion first requires buy-in from the actual project owners and agreement on a plan.)

Declining for the time being as per last comment. Feel free to reopen once interest is expressed by the Wikidata maintainers to organize their work as proposed here. Thanks!
