Apply for a Funder ID for WMF
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

We're exploring with Crossref the possibility of securing a funder ID for Wikimedia to mark all research output the Foundation supports financially (via grants/institutional support).

Context: http://www.crossref.org/fundingdata

Looks like "Cooperative agreements" are considered "funding" in some contexts

@klove this has been on the backburner for a while, did you or anyone in your team get an update on the registration of WMF as a research funder?

Met with @klove to clarify scope.
Obtained a response from Crossref, this is in the making but might take a few more weeks to be published in the funder registry.

From Crossref (February 2017):

Good news - we just received the new registry file and there is (finally) an entry for the Wikimedia Foundation. We will release the update within the next week or so, and your ID is 10.13039/100011049.

@DarTar if you want, we can close this task (given that you've applied and got the funder ID) and open a new one that captures how we should reference it and under what conditions? I don't think this is relevant to our upcoming WWW submission, but I'd like to make sure, now that we have the funder ID in place. Also, probably we want to work with Grants team to make sure the language is used in publications by grantees?
