Certain emails not received (Yahoo/RocketMail?)
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

I have attempted to send other users at Wikipedia, Wikiversity, Commons, and Wikidata emails regarding specific matters pertaining to those projects and all of these have not been sent. I asked for additional tests from other Wikiversity users at url=https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Wikiversity:Colloquium#Email and described the 'bug'.

Hi @Marshallsumter, thanks for taking the time to report this!

After reading the Wikiversity entry it seems that the issue is that Wikiversity incorrectly (?) states that your email address is unconfirmed and that you cannot manage to confirm it?

(Wondering if T143987 is the same problem.)

@Marshallsumter: Could you please clarify?

@Aklapper:Actually, the situation has worsened. I went to Wikipedia to send a test message and found the "email this user" application on the left menu missing. When I went to my user page under "preferences" I read that my email address was unconfirmed. I clicked on "Confirm email address" at 19:26 UTC, 1 October 2016. Then the message "A confirmation code has already been emailed to you; if you recently created your account, you may wish to wait a few minutes for it to arrive before trying to request a new code.". As of 20:20 no email had been received. I clicked on the button "Mail a confirmation code" at 20:21. As of 22:09 no email has been received. My correct email is listed under my preferences.

You use rocketmail, which is Yahoo? I believe we've still got ongoing issues with having emails delivered to Yahoo....

Re opening as the user has responded.

If we still have issues with sending emails to yahoo users then should we make this a high priority as this affects Wikimedia projects?

@Reedy: I received your email at 22:23 UTC 1 October 2016 on rocketmail.com.

Sorry, wrong time. It should be 23:23 UTC.

From Phab? That's different, I think

Phab has a very different email setup than Wikipedia, Commons, etc. :)
I can imagine that it's the usual DMARC problem (especially as Yahoo is involved. See T134886#2291395 for technical details; see T137603 and T137614 for potential technical approaches.

@Paladox: "as this affects Wikimedia projects" is true for 100% of tasks in this very Wikimedia Phabricator. If there are no actual arguments for a sudden increased urgency, please refrain from adding comments about changing priority. Thanks.

In looking back at mail I've received from Wikiversity. The last occurred at 11/29/15 from another Wikiversity user.

There have been some improvements:

  1. I've received emails from Wikiversity!
  2. Another user I've sent an email to received an alert, but not the email!
  3. My email address has remained confirmed.

Thanks!

Sending email is now working! Many thanks!!
