Community Tech Wishlist Workshop #1: (Project TBD)
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Type of activity: Pre-scheduled session
Main topic: A plan for the Community Wishlist 2016 top results
Timing: We'd like to do this on Monday afternoon, if possible

The problem

From November 7th to December 12th, WMF's Community Tech team will host our second annual Community Wishlist Survey, inviting active contributors from all Wikimedia wikis to propose, discuss and vote for the projects that you would like to see Community Tech take on next year. Once the survey's over, we'll end up with a prioritized backlog of community-generated ideas.

The Community Tech team is responsible for addressing the top 10 wishes on that list. We're expecting that some of those top wishes will be ambitious and technically challenging, and could use input from many people at the Dev Summit. We'll select the two or three wishes that would benefit from a deep discussion with Dev Summit participants, with the goal of putting together a technical plan for each one.

The specific wishes that we plan to work on at the Dev Summit will be selected after we've posted the final survey results, on December 15th. Special priority will be on wishes that appear on both the WMF Community Tech wishlist and the WMDE Technical Wishes wishlist.

Expected outcome

A rough technical plan for one of the most challenging projects in the Wishlist Survey top 10.

This is a special proposal, in the sense that it is impossible to define it further or discuss it before the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey results are known. Let's consider it "To be pre-scheduled".

@DannyH Hey! As developer summit is less than four weeks from now, we are working on a plan to incorporate the ‘unconference sessions’ that have been proposed so far and would be generated on the spot. Thus, could you confirm if you plan to facilitate this session at the summit? Also, if your answer is 'YES,' I would like to encourage you to update/ arrange the task description fields to appear in the following format:

Session title
Main topic
Type of activity
Description Move ‘The Problem,' ‘Expected Outcome,' ‘Current status of the discussion’ and ‘Links’ to this section
Proposed by Your name linked to your MediaWiki URL, or profile elsewhere on the internet
Preferred group size
Any supplies that you would need to run the session e.g. post-its

We will be reaching out to the summit participants next week asking them to express their interest in unconference sessions by signing up.

To maintain the consistency, please consider referring to the template of the following task description:

@DannyH, have you decided the topic for this session?

T147534: Community Wishlist Survey top 10 ideas and Q&A happened but lists nothing else related to the Community Wishlist. Hence I assume this session never happened and decline this task.
