Description

The descriptions of items in the RSS feed of recent tech blog posts (https://blog.wikimedia.org/c/technology/feed/) look goofy. https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Project:Sandbox&oldid=2278949 currently shows:

Victoria brings more than 20 years of experience leading development and strategy for complex technologies at scale. <img alt="" border="0" src="https://pixel.wp.co...

Someone should clean up these descriptions.

Hey MZM, I've looked into this, and it must be something in the theme; I don't have the option to change that natively in WordPress. We'll try to tackle this in the next theme update, although I'm not sure yet when that will be.

Searching around a bit, this looks like WordPress stupidity: https://encrypted.google.com/search?hl=en&q=pixel.wp.com%20rss.

According to the footer of https://blog.wikimedia.org/, we're using WordPress VIP. Can we file a ticket with them asking them for a fix to this issue? They should at least provide a URL parameter we can append to not include this garbage in the feed.

The alternative is that we have to modify our RSS feed ingestion and output system to remove (strip out) this <img> from the descriptions. I fail to see why we or anyone else should need to clean up after them.
