sidebar multimedia search
Open, LowPublic

Description

In some of our mocks for the new interwiki search, we have also included at the bottom some multimedia results. These vary a bit from the standard interwiki search we are implementing, namely:

  • The query has to be re-written from a content search to a search against the file namespace
  • Rather than showing a single result with highlighting, the mocks show a few images (3, 6?) with no titles or highlights

If we want to go this route we will need to implement the support for this in CirrusSearch's interwiki handling.

Hi @EBernhardson - if we can do a straight search in Commons for the images on the bottom of the right sidebar, that'd be great. We'd want to return only up to 3 images at this time from Commons that is relevant to the search query.

The 'multimedia' link will still exist near the top of the page and will be wikipedia specifically looking for multimedia on that wiki - which will most likely duplicate what is returned from Commons.

There's no action required here yet since we're still generating prototypes. We can pull this up once we need to.
