irc rc feed doesn't seem to like gothic characters
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Not sure if this lies with something MW is doing stupid in the RCFeed/IRCColourfulRCFeedFormatter code, or if it's an IRC server bug...

[20:42:36] <Amgine> Example:

Seems chrome doesn't display these well... but if you look at the bottom left from the mouseovered link... It does there

Most likely due to the font stack for our headings not including a system font that contains these characters.

@Reedy Despite the characters rendering as squares, at least within MediaWiki we know that the data is fine. It's just the font that can't display them. For the IRC feed, are you sure the binary data is corrupted (as received by your client, and thus by RC-watching bots), or could it be that that too is a font-related issue within your IRC client?

It was @Amgine with the problem, I seemingly just reported it

Tested 𐌰 𐌱 𐌲 𐌳 𐌴 𐌡 𐌢 𐌷 𐌸 𐌹 𐌹̈ 𐌺 𐌻 𐌼 𐌽 𐌾 𐌿 𐍀 𐍁 𐍂 𐍃 𐍄 𐍅 𐍆 𐍇 𐍈 𐍉 𐍊 in IRC, works fine. Tested the IRC feed, it works fine (now.) Same client, same OS with routine updates since previous. (And, yes, browser has trouble with these fonts but the stupid irc gui doesn't, wth?)

Dunno what changed in the interim.
