Investigate the usage of gallery image syntax before enabling HTML editing
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Particularly, in the namespacing.

https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Images and parserTests list some variations, such as,

File:Example.jpg|''italic caption''
Example.jpg|on page "{{PAGENAME}}"
Image:Astronotus_ocellatus.jpg|''[[commons:Astronotus ocellatus|Astronotus ocellatus]]'' (Oscar)

How common are these forms? What sort of dirty diff'ing are we looking at if we roundtrip these in a normalized form?

Event Timeline

Invalid lines are dropped, like we do for references, as in the test, "References: 5."

Is this more common than there? Acceptable?

Arlolra triaged this task as Medium priority.

Currently in VE we are normalising the namespace prefix to the canonical localised value (so File:). It will only happen when the gallery is modified, so I don't think it's a big deal.

Think we timed out on this one since HTML was already enabled.
