Upload to Commons app: Make more licensing options possible
Closed, InvalidPublic

Currently, the Commons app only allows licensing of files under CC-BY-3.0, CC-BY-SA-3.0, and CC0. However, there are some users like me who prefer to license their files under a different license instead. I prefer GFDL/CC-BY-SA-4.0/CC-BY-SA-3.0 multi-licensing for example. I think we should add GFDL/CC-BY-SA-4.0 multi-licensing, FAL, CC-BY-SA-4.0, GFDL/CC-BY-4.0, and CC-BY-4.0 to the licensing options.

Hi @Pokefan95 ,

Thanks for the suggestion. We do have plans to add more licenses to the app - the task is currently tracked at . Unfortunately I don't have the time currently to implement it, due to other commitments. However, I have outlined the steps needed for implementation on that GitHub thread, and it would make a good starter task for someone wanting to get involved with our codebase, so if any volunteers are interested in picking it up, that would be great. :) Alternatively, I could include it (along with adding explicit license selection, as the current license selection method is less than ideal) in my IEG renewal proposal at the start of next year.

Regarding the specific licenses you suggested, we unfortunately don't have the authority to allow people to select licenses that aren't already allowed by the default Upload Wizard. If you feel a specific license should be included there, please talk to the folks at Commons and we can add it if they do.

This needs to be handled in the issue tracker of the app, which is

Closing here as invalid.

This issue is currently tracked at , please refer there instead (sorry, @Aklapper , we had to do some housekeeping in our GitHub issues).

@Pokefan95 I am currently talking to WMF grant staff about the possibility of adding this task on to my ongoing IEG so it can be pushed forward, as I understand this is an issue for many users. Please follow the GitHub thread linked for updates.
