Stray wikitext markup prevented page from being edited via VisualEditor (http:// 400 error)
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Multiple people had trouble editing this page ~4 hours ago (before the 29 November deployment train began rolling), but after this change: https://office.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?diff=201900&oldid=201899 to remove a stray |}, the page opened normally.

I believe that the the page would hang and produce an "http://" error (which is always odd for a site that is https only).

At least @Trizek-WMF and I run into this problem. He took a screenshot of that dialog (that I also got). Maybe you can share it (only the dialog, not the content of the page behind -- it's nothing secret but the wiki is private).

Also, the problem was with VisualEditor only, so maybe this task should be tagged accordingly?

Aklapper renamed this task from Stray wikitext markup prevented page from being edited (http:// 400 error) to Stray wikitext markup prevented page from being edited via VisualEditor (http:// 400 error).Nov 30 2016, 10:52 AM

That bug was solved when I've removed the unexpected wikitext: https://office.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Manager_Training&type=revision&diff=201900&oldid=201899.

I've also copy/pasted the wrong wikitext in my sandbox and managed to open it with VE.

Stalled until we can work out what wasn't working.

From the screenshot (which shows a dialog with "http" in it), it looks like it might be the same issue described in T152429 ?

Could this perhaps be related to an error in Content translation I stumbled upon recently (and not only myself)? On complicated pages (possibly with some non-standard markup inside), the CT engine breaks and prevents user from publishing work, with the following error "Podczas publikowania tłumaczenia wystąpił błąd. Spróbuj opublikować stronę jeszcze raz. Błąd: Error converting HTML to wikitext: docserver-http: HTTP 400" (in Polish, you get the ghist).

T152429 was resolved, hence assuming this task is also resolved. If you can still reproduce, then please reopen this ticket. Thanks!
