Ability to Hide highly active editors
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Author: jaspencer00

Description:
Currently on the Newpages patrol there is the ability to hide patrolled edits and to hide bots.

There could also be an ability to hide highly active users (100+ pages created).

It could be activated in the position below the Go button on the new pages edit.

The options would show to an initial user as:

Hide patrolled edits | Hide bots | Hide users with 100+ new articles

The "Hide" term would be hyperlinked.

If the "Hide" term were pressed it would change into "Show" and the option would read as "Show users with 100+ new articles"

The New Pages list would now only show articles created by users with 99 or fewer articles created. The articles counted for the 100 creations would be unpatrolled, only created in article space and only created within the particular wiki.

First of all, we only keep track of edits right now, not of page creations. It's probably better to go with x edits rather than x page creations, or maybe even use autoconfirmed status.

Secondly, a vandal could quickly create 100 pages/make 100 edits/do whatever is necessary to meet your criterium and vanish from your recent changes. This would be a non-issue with autoconfirmed, of course, as that currently requires a 4-day old account on WMF wikis.

Would it be better to set the bar at (say) 1000 edits?

The idea is not to auto patrol anything, just to let some patrollers concentrate on the newer users where historically we've found most problems with creation would be. The other articles would remain unpatrolled, and a vandal creating the required number of edits would either be spotted at an earlier stage or get quite bored getting the required useful entries for a not very high payoff.

Between newbie contribs and patrolling features this is not necessary and seems to add more feature bloat.
