[Spike] [bike shed] Name the Meta ORES service
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Criteria:

  • Emphasize that it's about human judgement.
  • Humans are an equal or senior partner to the machine learning.
  • Possibly we want to suggest the more general problem (allow review of everything) and not just a check on ORES
  • Extra points for playing on the data mining metaphor some more (e.g. "ores")

Ideas:

  • JaDE: Judgment and Dialogue Engine
  • SRES: Subjective Revision Evaluation Service
  • BiasBuster
  • Assay (the process for testing mineral content in an ore sample)

Event Timeline

Halfak renamed this task from Spike: [bike shed] Name the Meta ORES service to [Spike] [bike shed] Name the Meta ORES service.Dec 15 2016, 3:24 PM
Halfak raised the priority of this task from Low to Needs Triage.
Halfak moved this task from Unsorted to Maintenance/cleanup on the Machine-Learning-Team board.

I wonder if there is a particularly human type of rock ("ore") that you might mine out of the ground.

Or, we could work in human things that happen to miners: SORES for
subjective... objective RES...

Halfak added subscribers: Tnegrin, bd808.

I just added BiasBuster (@Tnegrin) and Assay (@bd808) to the list of ideas.

Thinking about measuring the purity of a chemical. There are lots of types of spectrometry, e.g. mass spectrometry is a process that allows one to examine the purity of a sample (and identify all the other crap in it). We're doing human spectrometry -- where we use humans to examine the purity of an ORES. :)

This is implicitly quantiative, yet the articles make it clear that a spectrometer can be used both quantiatively and qualitatively.
