Link editor should show the actual link, not the text what is written
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

Selecting a link on a page should show the actual link in the search box in "search pages" tab. Now it shows the text what is written. For example [[Hello Visual Editor|Visual Editor]] would show results for "Visual Editor", when it should give results for "Hello Visual Editor".

Reproduce:

  1. Go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_Super_Hero_Squad?veaction=edit
  2. Go to section "outside the toyline" and choose the linked text "Action-adventure video game"
  3. Open the chosen link in the link editor
  4. You get a result "Action-adventure video game", when you should get the actual link which is Marvel Super Hero Squad (video game).

This was how this happened before, and now it's suddenly changed. The old way how this worked was better. Was much easier to fix redirects.

I don't see this occurring. E.g.

Is it still happening for you?

Ok, I see it only happens if you have the New wikitext mode enabled in your settings.

Ah, okay. Pretty certain this is T154331, which has been fixed, but the fix isn't deployed all the way out to wikipedia yet.

By which David means T153668: [Regression] VE Link inspector stops working properly when NWE is enabled.. :-)

Look, copying and pasting is hard, okay? ;_;
