Post Wikimedia Developer Summit 2017 follow up to session organizers and participants
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Follow up with session organizers months after the Developer Summit and see how we can help push / support forward progress!

Suggestions from Melody:
"They collect paper lists from each moderator and participant, and then follow up via email 6 months later. The question they ask at that time is: "How can we help you achieve the goals you set out at Mozfest?" which

a) surfaces the event again in people's memories
b) is phased as "we want to help you" and not "Have you completed the task you set out to do?" which I like
c) also ensures they can invite participants the following year."

Event Timeline

I also want an email to all participants to go out with the following things.

  1. a way to opt in to a mailing list for technical events (this will be the last email going to participants)
  2. pointing to the feedback survey info and addressing the things we can change as well as the things we can't or wont for various (good) reasons and inviting discussion on the wiki talk page.
  3. An invitation to ask for more post-event help.

What else, @srishakatux ?

Is this for the session organizers or participants? If so, I will add the description from T152823 into this task, and decline it.

All these are great ideas! Asking participants to share thoughts on our lessons learned page would be great! It would be nice to have in the email:

  • A blog post (T152820) containing (link to all session notes page, all the videos on commons or a playlist on youtube (get them uploaded soon, how we did what we did, sessions debrief, some useful actions that emerged out of the summit such as developer wishlist, etc), if there is any concrete plan that we want to make from the results of session templates that we distributed (online meetup/follow-up or so), ask people to resolve any dev summit related tasks perhaps?

When do you plan to send out these emails?

Also for the final communication to all participants I want to add a link to the wifi usage throughout the event.

no deadline at the moment - I will need to see when I can summarize the feedback survey information which can not be for a while - as we need to give participants a little more time to respond, then do a follow up, then I have to actaully have the 1-2 working days that it takes to capture everything.

Lets say that the follow up email roughly goes out in 1-2 months?

A follow up to the Tech Management Q&A was just done, here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4kfgU9SZcg

Were people who attended the WDS2017 notified about the upcoming tech talk? It's a followup thing to an event they attended, yet we shouldn't expect them to be on lists where word was spread around the tech talk (in one case Srishti's mail wasn't even received in time anyway).

Everything is changing so significantly for 2018 that we will need to begin again. The will be extensive follow up on 2018 if it is a success and we decide to keep the model.
