make MediaWiki + extensions i18n translatewiki synchronization documented and reusable
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

This is a follow-up from the MediaWiki Dev Summit 2017.

Every day @Raymond runs a process for synchronizing messages in translatewiki and in MediaWiki and its extensions source repos. This consists of running shell scripts, checking diffs, and other steps.

These scripts must be stored in the translatewiki source repo (if they aren't already), and the routine must be documented in a public place so anyone (with an account) will be able to do it.

Thanks!

Thanks for opening this task, Amir. Just one comment before I will create the docu on twn: All relevant scripts are already stored in the translatewiki source repo. Only a "shortcut" script calling official scripts for my comfort is sitting in my home directory.

I have done some updates to https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Repository_management and https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Setup_of_a_new_project because of my RepoNG work.

It is still missing some pieces such as:

  • cron runs autosync scripts
  • those announce changes in IRC
  • people check the links
  • people run export scripts (who, which)

One pending todo is to make nike-export-all work for all users. There are only a few repos that do not already use a dedicated account. After that things can be as simple as:

# For mediawiki
autosync-mediawiki
# Process changes via wiki
autoexport-mediawiki

# For everything else
autosync
# Process changes via wiki
autoexport

@Nikerabbit
https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Repository_management: should it be autoexport-mediawiki instead of autoimport-mediawiki on the last line?

Yes, corrected together with bunch of spelling mistakes.

Thx, @Nikerabbit! Closing the ticket as Resolved.
