From @mark: "The 4 maps-test boxes, maps-test2001-2004 in codfw are also 5 years old, already in upcoming April. Being temporary test boxes without budget, we also allocated them from old hardware. If you would still like to hold on to them next fiscal year, we should budget for new hardware now."
We should decide what we want to do with this cluster and let SRE know.
The two obvious options are to totally decommission, or to replace all the boxes with new hardware.
@MaxSem said the boxes still have their uses but acknowledges the concerns of SRE, and was wondering if there was a hybrid solution; we could leave the boxes where they are but then if a machine dies then just let it die since it's just a test cluster. @Gehel said he would think/ask about this.
@Gehel is point person as ops engineer for the team, so assigning to him. We will figure this out together.
This hasn't been touched for three months now. It therefore seems that the status quo of leaving the boxes there is the preferred option, since that's essentially what we've done for the past three months. If someone disagrees and wishes to propose a different course of action, feel free to reopen.
