Go through Dev Guidelines feedback and update
Open, Needs TriagePublic2 Estimated Story Points

Description

With the Dev guidelines up on the wiki we have been collecting feedback on the talk page which should be used to update/clarify the guidelines.

  • Should "shared storage space" be (publically accessible part of) Nextcloud?
  • Find a documentation standard for Python.
  • Where is the "shared storage space"?
  • Add link to license
  • Add any alternative licenses that could be used

Should probably briefly discuss T225418: Investigate PY2 tooling currently in use by WMSE, if only to figure out how we can more clearly signal code/repos which are not actively maintained.

Notes from the meeting

Event Timeline

Moving this to OrgDev as the focus is improving guidelines and routines rather than day-to-day dev work

Lets schedule a meeting for after Wikimania (and recuperation period) to go through the guidelines again. Both to incorporate any feedback but also with an eye to any parts which we have in practice chosen to ignore or de facto standards which have yet to be written down.

Sent out an invitation for 12th of September

There's a possibility of doing it IRL on September 18 but we'll have to wait with officially re-scheduling until we've got more concrete plans for the day's acitivities.

Spotted that we never changed the date in the calendar to the 18th. @Alicia_Fagerving_WMSE looking at the calendar the 18th it should be possible to do it that day although I'm not sure yet at what time in the day.

@Sebastian_Berlin-WMSE Could you start looking a bit at specific questions which we what to answer during the meeting (things missing from the routines, things we've spotted don't work in practice, etc.)

@Lokal_Profil – is the date change official and this week's meeting can be removed from the calendar?

Let's make the date change official. I have a meeting with Sandra F tomorrow to figure out a schedule for the following Wednesday, after that I should be able to set a specific time for this.

Maybe a quick discussion/think about WMFs Code of Conduct and if we should by default also apply this to our non-gerrit repos

Postponed until unspecified date, maybe to coordinate with T232744

Let's try October 3 since I will be in town.

@Lokal_Profil Will look over the results and make sure someone is assigned for each (and that there is a corresponding task linked)

Might be worth setting a date for the next evaluation before wrapping this one up

Since we are getting our own Code of Conduct I recommend we move forward with this as well. The easiest solution is to simply use the same file as WMF uses and mandate that it be used in all repos under https://github.com/Wikimedia-Sverige/.

@Sebastian_Berlin-WMSE @Alicia_Fagerving_WMSE thoughts?

Nothing there strikes me as inappropriate for us, so this would indeed be the easiest way.

@Lokal_Profil @Sebastian_Berlin-WMSE – I moved out the code of conduct question to a separate task to make sure it doesn't get lost in here.

This task has been assigned to the same task owner for more than two years. Resetting task assignee due to inactivity, to decrease task cookie-licking and to get a slightly more realistic overview of plans. Please feel free to assign this task to yourself again if you still realistically work or plan to work on this task - it would be welcome!
