Benefits

  • Image gallery thumbnails load faster for the user
  • Reduces the amount of data downloaded for images that the user does not wish to see in high resolution
  • Improves offline experience since users are able to at least view lower resolution images within an article rather than being shown a blank screen and 'no connection' message when tapping to view article images in full screen gallery mode. This is documented on T157437.
