leila triaged this task as Medium priority.

I'm reaching out to Markus to see if he would be interested to talk about https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research:Understanding_Wikidata_Queries. Given that Markus is a formal collaborator, we can still invite an external speaker if we want to. It would be especially fun if that next person is in structured data, knowledge extraction, etc. /me thinks.

I pinged @Staeiou about presenting on his research that was super relevant to the Wikimedia Cloud proposal. FYI @chasemp & @bd808

I'll reach out to the authors of the CSCW paper on Wikipedia-articles-as-concepts research.

cc @srodlund this is very likely to happen in April.

Invitation to authors of article-as-concept study sent.

update:
The paper Dario mentioned will be presented in June's showcase: T161714.
I have not heard back from Markus K, yet. :(

@Halfak did you hear from the speaker you reach out to?
@DarTar I'd like to ask ISI folks to present. I had a chat with them in WWW about it. Cool? (This may be a short notice for them, in which case I'll schedule them for May or June).

If we can't secure the two speakers by Friday afternoon PST, I suggest we cancel April's showcase.

@leila ISI sounds good to me, we could also ask Reid Priedhorsky to join and present his CSCW 2017 paper on the same topic if we want to design a session focused on the same topic. I won't have much time to coordinate with them, but I'll drop you Reid's contacts if you want to hear back by tomorrow.

Dario

thanks, @DarTar. I'll ping Ciro and if someone from ISI is up for it, I'll reach out to Reid.

for the record, I've got an auto-response from Ciro that he'll be out until April 21. He may have pity and respond earlier ;) but I wouldn't hold my breath.

@Staeiou said it'll be difficult for him so he'd like to see if the Articles-as-concept folks wanted to present instead. @DarTar did you have any luck reaching out to them?

@Halfak that's the one I mentioned above which will take place in June (articles-as-concept).

thanks for the update on Staeiou.

@Staeiou, given that there's a slot for you, do you think you'll be interested in presenting?

@Halfak Unfortuntely, this is a pretty hectic next couple weeks for me, so I don't think I can. Sorry!

I just talked to @Shilad and he's interest in presenting some of the semantic-relatedness visualizations he's been building with his students.

ok, great, @Halfak . Thanks, @Shilad. We're looking for one more speaker, I'm going to confirm with @Shilad by the end of the day on Friday (tomorrow) if we have the other speaker secured. If not, we will have to postpone the showcase and come back in May.

@Shilad I have not managed to secure one more speaker for April 19. If it works for you, we can push the showcase to one week later, to April 26, and I can ping a few more people in the coming days. If by Wednesday, April 19, we cannot secure one more speaker, we should cancel April's showcase and plan for May. Would this work for you?

I just talked to @leila and ended up nominating myself to take over setup duty. So we're still on for 4/19 so long as @Shilad can still make it.

I'll ping @Shilad in the morning for a title and abstract. :)
