Too much info posted on talk pages
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

Right now when the IABot archives a link it also posts a notice on a talk page. It is good to post on the talk page but considering the activity of the bot there is too much text being posted. With 100,000 edits, if posts are read an average of once and it takes a minute of thinking to read it then the bot is taking 100,000 minutes which is excessive.

here is how text looks - https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Dishwashing_liquid&oldid=699681598#External_links_modified
Sample addition - https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk%3ADishwashing_liquid&type=revision&diff=699681598&oldid=687898801

To fix this, make the shortest explanation possible then link to a documentation page with more information. If you need community feedback to confirm the appropriateness of a documentation page then I will help with that.

1 sentence is enough. "A link went down and the Internet Archive Wikipedia Link Archiving Project fixed it by replacing it with an archived copy. - Internet Archive Bot"

Event Timeline

Restricted Application added a project: Internet-Archive. · View Herald Transcript
Restricted Application added a subscriber: Aklapper. · View Herald Transcript

Firstly, this is something that needs to be taken up with the community as this is something that is decided by them.

Secondly, you pointed to old messages.

Thirdly, one sentence is unfeasible for instances where multiple. Rewriting the entire talk page message engine is not a very high priority for me.

Copy - you want this up for community discussion.
