The exclamation marks in the watchlist do not seem to have a correlation to sighting anymore. This behavior started today, as far as I know and definitely has been correct before.

It's still an issue :-(
Tested with http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Engelbert and http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siliciumcarbid
All edits from today are autosighted but the ! is still shown on the watchlist.
