iOS 10.3 OS search result deeplinks open app but not linked article

Description

Device:
iPhone 6S
iOS 10.3
Wifi

Steps to reproduce:

  1. On the device home screen swipe right to bring up SIRI search
  2. Run a search for a term you HAVE NOT PREVIOUSLY SEARCHED FOR (I used "Rim Fire")
  3. Tap the Wikipedia search result
  4. In the expanded view tap the "Load article" link at the bottom of the card

Actual behavior:
Wikipedia App opens and feed reloads.

Expected behavior:
Wikipedia app opens and the article is loaded.

NOTE that re-running the same search or running a search for an article which has previously been loaded in the app will yield the "expected behavior". Only a new search term/article fails to load the article in the app.

This isn't repro'ing for me on 10.3.1. Tried with the app already open and the after a force quit.

@Mhurd @AMroczkowski can you take a look at this today? I was able to repro and it is showing up in OTRS and store reviews.

Just tried it from from a fresh 10.3.1 install, and it opened the deep link just fine

Tried this as well:

  • Delete wikipedia app
  • Search for new term in Spotlight page
  • Choose Wikipedia result
  • Choose Open Full Article
    • Opens in Safari (as expected)
  • Reinstall Wikipedia app
  • Search for another new term in Spotlight page
  • Choose Wikipedia result
  • Choose Open Full Article
    • Opens in Wikipedia App (as expected?)

Report of similar issue (with language complication thrown in!):

I observed a different variation of unexpected redirection from iOS Spotlight search:

  1. The app primary language is English, second Russian
  2. I am entering search term 'болид' (in English 'Bolide') - and the found match in ruwiki is displayed perfectly (see the attached screenshot)
  3. When clicked on the article, I am redirected to the article that I was previously viewing in the app.

Tested on an iPhone 7+ with iOS 10.3 and an iPad Mini 2 Retina with iOS 10.2 both running App 5,4,1,1099

I tried a number of different scenarios around deep linking from spotlight. Deep linking behaved as expected.
