Back button doesn't work reliably to leave VE

Description

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Go to https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Hauptseite
  2. Click any link to an existing article.
  3. Click the edit tab for VE.
  4. Click the back button in your browser.

Expected: You return to page you visited in step 2 in read mode.
Actual: Nothing happens.

  1. Click the back button a second time. Now you are back in read mode.
  2. Click the edit tab again.
  3. Click the back button again.

Expected: You return to read view.
Actual: You return to the main page.

This was fixed at some point. Maybe by T162128: Regression: Editor hash fragment behaviour results in editor staying open? You do have to press back twice to exit, though. But at least it works.
