BUG: Some Chinese articles are incorrectly showing as "Error:Page does not exist" when accessed via a link/link preview from another article
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Some Chinese articles are incorrectly showing as "Error:Page does not exist" when accessed via a link/link preview from another article. (Reported via OTRS)
Seems likely the underlying cause may be related to other Chinese language bugs recently filed T162398 and T162400

Steps to reproduce

  1. Set the Wikipedia language to Simplified Chinese (ZH-HANS) and restart the app to ensure the change is accepted
  2. Go to article "横滨站" (alternatively the article in English may be entered 'Yokohama Station' in search)
  3. In the disambiguation text, tap to open the link preview for 樱木町站 ('Sakuragichō_Station' in English)
  4. Tap on Read more on the link preview

Expected

  • Link preview should show the the first few sentences of the 櫻木町站 article, followed by a thumbnail gallery of images in the article.
  • Tapping on read more should open the 櫻木町站 article page.

Actual

  • Link preview content is blank
  • Tapping on 'read more' shows an error page saying the article does not exist

Note: the article definitely exists and does show up when it is searched for directly.

Occurring on: Android 7.1.1
Device: Pixel
Version: 2.5.191-r-2017-03-31

Note:
This doesn't seem to be an issue on the Alpha version 2.5.192-alpha-2017-04-04 (i.e., article for 櫻木町站 appears in link preview and as a page)

Event Timeline

Does this mean that it's fixed in the current alpha?

RHo claimed this task.

Derp, yes. However, T162398 on Alpha has some UI text now showing in English that was in Chinese before. For tracking purposes, am gonna link with T162398 (for which I've updated the bug description).
