Apparently it's not yet possible to hide multimedia results from the new interwiki searchresults sidebar.
This feature was implemented as browser only code and seems to be enabled by adding the module mediawiki.special.search.commonsInterwikiWidget from InterwikiSearchResultSetWidget.php.
If we want to hide these results for some particular wikis we will have to add a new config var to control this behavior.
