Investigation: Revive Article Blamer from Xtools?
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

The existing Article Blamer tool in Xtools doesn't work; see example below. This is a big, hard task that seems beyond the scope of the current Xtools project. There is an existing WikiBlame tool that works for at least some queries.

Question for the team: We're going to pull Article Blamer out of the Xtools project; we can launch successfully without it. Should we put time into building a new Article Blamer?

Example:
From the Miss Piggy article on enwp, looking for this edit by Jedi94 from 11 Oct 2015:
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Miss_Piggy&diff=685276464&oldid=685275268

Search term: Kermit, however, constantly rebuffed Piggy's feelings.

Existing Xtools Article Blamer tool finds the wrong edit:

Wikiblame finds the right edit:

Closing this ticket. We talked about it in estimation, and decided that this is really too big to be a part of the Xtools project (which is already big). Xtools hasn't had a working article blame feature for a long time, and it's not what people were really voting for. Building an article blame feature from scratch can be its own wishlist proposal. So -- no for now, maybe next year if people want it.
