Description

This is ToDo feature request. I'm sorry, if this is duplicate of things.

With using CirrusSearch, users may be use many filters, options and modificators within search string.
Current default skin (Vector) is designed with hard width of Search field in the Special:Search page.

This is very unuseful witn any kind of complicated cases. As example:

image.png (433×835 px, 68 KB)

(The search query went beyond the right margin of the field)

I propose an obvious solution - a control element, which when hovering the cursor allows you to expand the field in width and height to display the entire contents of the line.

This is may be look:

image.png (433×835 px, 71 KB)
and
image.png (433×835 px, 71 KB)

Event Timeline

Can this be done in other skins / is this Vector (legacy skin) skin specific?
Wondering if this is OOUI instead, as it's a SearchInputWidget.

For multiline fields, we already have an 'autosize' mode which automatically adjusts the height to the contents (with a defined minimum and maximum). https://doc.wikimedia.org/oojs-ui/master/demos/?page=widgets&theme=wikimediaui&direction=ltr&platform=desktop#MultilineTextInputWidget-autosize

For multiline fields, we already have an 'autosize' mode

So is it possible to add this mode to the search box? Don't let it be the default, but the community would be able to configure this mode...
