Can we add recurring information to TY email?

Hey David,

A few instances have come up in drafting this year's TY email about what's possible in terms of personalizing Civi emails. I know Civi allows personalized content based on merge fields, so I'm wondering if we can add customizations like an additional paragraph for recurring people, or a different first sentence if someone has donated to us more than once.

Is it worth talking about that before we finalize this year's draft, or does it feel like an over-complication?

Thanks!

My response:
We just discussed this and there seems to be some options for recurring. There are complications around saying if a person has donated more than once.

Fr-tech can comment more. Enabling the recurring functionality may be pretty easy. However we can't spend a ton of time on this for this holiday period.

Good news! There is already a special paragraph in the TY letters for recurring donations. You can see it in the footer here, enclosed in [ifRecurring] [endIfRecurring] tags.

You can use those tags in the body of the email as well.

Cool! Thanks for sending that, it's helpful to see which merge fields we're using. Is it possible to show a different message where donation count > 1?

We'd like to add language that acknowledges someone has given more than once if we know they have. The =1 TY letter wouldn't refer to it being their first donation in case there are duplicate records.

As discussed in standup:
The difficulty with repeat donors is that we don't de-duplicate before sending the TY letter. There's a ticket someplace to pass the contact ID from email clicks all the way through the pipeline so for at least those donors we can add the donations to an existing record and not create a duplicate.

CCogdill_WMF claimed this task.

I think this is extraneous now. Closing :)
