for example Special:LinkSearch/*.commons.wikimedia.org only generates http://commons.wikimedia.org results
one needs to specifically put https://... to get those results, eg. Special:LinkSearch/https://*.commons.wikimedia.org

The ideal means to use LinkSearch would be to have it ignore the protocol and simply report based on the domain.
