Suggest one or two heritage experts to WLM-cn
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

WLM-china is having a hard time finding good jurors. They asked if we could help find them one or two heritage experts with some experience in Chinese heritage (not necessarily from China), preferrably non-govt related I presume.

John seemed to be OK with volunteering for this, in another task. See T171927.

Event Timeline

@Mrjohncummings is in the best position to help with this. I will also start helping as soon as the majority of campaigns go live on September 1. :)

@Mrjohncummings Would you confirm that you can join our jury process from Round 2 which will starts at next Tuesday?

@fantasticfears I think there has been a missunderstanding, I agreed to help try and find a juror, not be part of the jury. When do you need to find someone by?

@Mrjohncummings Oh, sorry, my bad. We would like a juror or two who is interesting in Chinese monuments starting from Oct 9th.

@fantasticfears A couple of questions:

  • Do they need to be able to read English and Chinese?
  • How can judges tell which monuments they are looking at? Looking at the template on the Commons pages it just shows an ID number, not a name.

Thanks

John

While fantasticfears may have a solution for this, given that the options for jury can be limited, I suggest we handle this challenge as follows: the jury can choose the photos in the early rounds without knowing more about what monument is being captured in a photo. For the limited photos that make it to the final round(s), the jury coordinator can share the name of the monuments with the jury. Will this work?

(Generally, all of this will be handled much more smoothly once all this data is on Wikidata, but until then).

@LilyOfTheWest 's suggestion is our plan right now. Addis and I are filtering photos in the first round. We'll handle all the validation for such. The international jury can solely work on judging the professional level of photos.

Any luck for this? I'm looking forward to an rating round. We have 289 photos for now.

@fantasticfears would @Shizhao not be a good juror? I suggest we just invite a few people - having a larger jury is never a big problem :)

@Shizhao Would you like to be a juror from this round for WLM 2017?

Hi guys

Sorry for the delay in replying, I'm still trying to find someone, I think I'm close.

Thanks

John

Ok. I'll wait for John's response. We now have Shizhao and one other jury for last two rounds now. It would be best for us to have 3~4 experts to do these two rounds.

@Shizhao, once we have confirmed other jurors, I'll add you in Montage.

just to confirm, Fantasticfears has access to Montage. If you all want to add another jury coordinator, i can do that but my understanding is that you will be a jury member, not a jury coordinator, @Shizhao.

ok

Guys, I found a judge :) He works on cultural heritage publishing in China. Who should I introduce them to? Which email address?

Thanks

Awesome! Please refer them into me! fantasticfears at gmail.com

All: given that Mrjohncummings have already introduced a juror, I'm going to assume this task is resolved. If you disagree, please go ahead and re-open it.
