Help users quickly orient themselves in the app with an introduction screen at the start of onboarding
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Why are we doing this?

Based on findings from user testing, where users had a hard time orienting themselves in the app (eg. a user thought she had downloaded the wrong app) we would like to create a introduction screen to welcome users

Design

Necessary elements

  • App name
  • Wikipedia logo
  • Short value statement for the app

Optional elements

  • Broader introduction to Wikipedia
  • Login / sign up area

Design details

  • The puzzle globe shown above is the version of the puzzle globe which is animated to spin slightly. We would like to use a .mov file of this asset.
  • The globe would appear and the rotation would occur once and then be still.
NOTE: Waiting on Comms for .mov of rotating puzzle globe

Moved to blocked or waiting as I am waiting on the puzzle globe asset

Keep in mind we'll need to be careful about file size for this asset... could easily end up being bigger than the entire app binary. My recommendation would be adding to "Necessary elements" that it be less than 5MB.

Also wondering about the globe .MOV background... if it's white and we exclude it from smart invert inversion it would appear on a white square when smart invert is enabled. If its transparent I'm not sure MOV rendering context can be made not opaque... .MOV file format may not even support alpha channel in colors... hmm...

Good points @Mhurd, hmm could we do a .gif with a transparent background?

JMinor claimed this task.
