Newly created pages disappear from Special:NewPages after rename and redirect removal.
Closed, ResolvedPublicBUG REPORT

Description

New created articles can be found in the section 'Special:NewPages'.

But when we rename a page shortly after creation, and we delete the redirect (the old pagename), the article disappears from 'Special:NewPages'

So the page stays in 'Special: NewPages' when the redirect remains. But if it's deleted, the page disappears.

I noticed on nl.wikinews.org but probably it is on all projects.

Hm, I'm not seeing this behaviour on en.wikipedia

Created page

image.png (27×810 px, 3 KB)

Moved page, suppressed redirect

image.png (23×1 px, 4 KB)

Could you walk us through what you did to confirm this?

The above is with a suppressed redirect (the redirect is never created, "test1" is effectively deleted)

Okay, following your exact steps, I've reproduced this

To reproduce

  1. Create a page
  2. Check Special:NewPages, page is present
  3. Move the page without suppressing the redirect
  4. Check Special:NewPages, page is present with note originally created as []
  5. Delete the redirect
  6. Check Special:NewPages, page is no longer displayed

@Seba98 Could you verify step 4 for me? Could you move the page but leave the redirect undeleted (temporarily) - does the page then display in Special:NewPages with the note originally created as []?

Entries in the recent changes are still stored under the old title after move,
at the moment deleting the old title deletes also the entries for that title, not the entries from the redirect only

see T14363 for showing the old title.

I believe this is another problem solved by the fix for T307865.
