MassMessage for WLM-VE
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

WLM-VE is interested to send a personalized message (in Wikimedia Commons) to participants of WLE (2016), Wikiviajes (2014) and WLM (2013) for Venezuela's campaigns.

Steps

  • Get a list of all uploaders, which can be done with the 'Uploaders in cat' tool. There might be a better tool out there, too. Example: List of all uploaders for WLM-VE 2013
  • On the Commons, make a list of all uploaders' talk pages; each listing should be formatted like # {{#target:User talk:USERNAME}} (see example)
  • Draft the message you want to send on a new page. Do not include a header, as the MassMessage tool has a separate field for that. Ask an admin on the Commons to send the message out; I usually just post to the Admins' Noticeboard. See my example request on how to easily lay it out for admins. You basically want to provide the message, the header, and the list of user talk pages.

LilyOfTheWest created this task.

Yes, and I think more may be wanting to do that. Is this something @SuperHamster could document & share? I know they did it for the WLM-US :)

@JeanFred can you help listing all the steps that need to be taken for this task (or tasks alike) to get processed? I'm not sure if you are the person who can eventually help with doing it, it would be good if you clarify that, too, as part of the steps. I can imagine that we may want to repeat this for other countries as well. Thanks.

Here's the process I go through, for record's sake. You'll want to make two pages (the recipient list and the message itself).

  • Get a list of all uploaders, which can be done with the 'Uploaders in cat' tool. There might be a better tool out there, too.
  • On the Commons, make a list of all uploaders' talk pages; each listing should be formatted like # {{#target:User talk:USERNAME}} (see example)
  • Draft the message you want to send on a new page. Do not include a header, as the MassMessage tool has a separate field for that.
  • Ask an admin on the Commons to send the message out; I usually just post to the Admins' Noticeboard. See my example request on how to easily lay it out for admins. You basically want to provide the message, the header, and the list of user talk pages.

@Effeietsanders I can make a nice writeup for WLM on-wiki.

@SuperHamster You just earned another task. ;)

@SuperHamster awesome, would be much appreciated! Could you create it as a subpage of https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments/Documentation and share it on the mailing list?

Doesn't have to be much longer than what you described above. (perhaps with an example message with a few blanks)

@LilyOfTheWest I think with the above information, it may be already fine to assign this task back to Oscar, so that he can get drafting?

The assignments are so short-lived today, @Effeietsanders . ;)

@Oscar please follow the steps in Description and let us know if you get stuck somewhere. Otherwise, please mark this task as Resolved when it's finished. Thanks!

Already on their way.

Many thanks you guys!
