UploadCampaign sometimes use old autoAdd configuration
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

(This can appear similar to T173642 but is distinct)

The wlm-fr UploadCampaign was rigged to autoAdd the category "Images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 in France − early" ; this was changed on August 31st to autoAdd " "Images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 in France to check" − see Diff/257024815.

However it has been reported that the Wizard sometimes sends uploads to the old category. See eg this file uploaded on September 4. According to one of the organisers, this happens ~20 times a day.

Hi @JeanFred - I can't think of any reason why this might be happening. The cache should be cleared when the configuration changes. The best explanation that I can come up with is that some users are leaving their UploadWizard pages open, waiting for Wiki Loves Monuments to start, and then uploading images with the old configuration. However, that's not possible, because at least one of the users who uploaded to the category was created *after* the change. So I guess I would like to know a little more about what happened in the upload sessions, though this does seem to be related to the aforementioned issues with template caching...so I guess I get to take another whack at that issue.

Yup, had this too. In https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Campaign%3Apainting-pd-art-self&type=revision&diff=312102316&oldid=312090259 I fixed the license. This change didn't have any effect. I kept getting a broken message, see for example https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jos%C3%A9_Garcia_Ramos_-_El_ni%C3%B1o_del_viol%C3%ADn.jpg where it still uses the old template. Later I did https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Campaign%3Apainting-pd-art-self&type=revision&diff=312135588&oldid=312102316 and that solved it almost instantly.

My best guess is that a save of the campaign page doesn't always trigger a proper invalidation.

This is still an issue. Chain of events (with an example relayed by a French volunteer):

Moving to 2018 board since this is still an issue

Removing Wiki-Loves-Monuments 2018 tag as that was two years ago; adding general Wiki-Loves-Monuments tag.
