Automatically highlight the search phrase when opening one of the search results in sa.wikisource
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

An issue with the search engine needs to be solved. When a user search for a word/word group, gets the result with searched word in bold. But when a particular page is clicked from the result, user won't be able to find that searched word because it is not highlighted in the text.
we need to get the searched word/word group to be highlighted in the text.

I don't think that it's an available feature from MW or its extensions, so code development is needed.

@Shubha: Thanks for reporting this. Providing full links is always welcome to allow others to reproduce the problem. See https://mediawiki.org/wiki/How_to_report_a_bug for more information.

So to understand correctly: You have search results, and when you click on a search result, and your browser goes to the page/article which includes the word that you searched for, that page/article should highlight the word that you searched for?
I don't think that is possible currently, as the page with the search results would have to "pass" your search word to the next page/article (probably via a URL parameter).
You can search for the word in your browser on that new page/article.

Yes, you got it right. Thank you.
Please let me know how to search the word in the result page.
Currently this may not be available. But this is very much needed in sa
Wikisource. Please let us have the code written for this.

Most browsers use Ctrl-F to find text within the current page (and then either Ctrl-G or Enter/Return repeatedly to find all instances).

As you set Wikimedia-Site-requests, do you plan to create a task to cover writing such code and making this task depend on it and marking this task as stalled?

Aklapper renamed this task from Search result fixing in Sa_wikisource to Automatically highlight the search phrase when opening one of the search results in sa.wikisource.Sep 13 2017, 1:12 PM

I've put this ticket in the Blocked on development column of the Wikimedia-Site-requests tag. If you want to add a more precise tag, or marking this as stalled, don't hesitate:)

Aklapper changed the task status from Open to Stalled.Sep 29 2017, 9:31 AM

@Framawiki: And this task will be blocked forever and one day if you do not make sure that anyone in "development" knows about this request... well, your choice. :)

Unfortuantely nobody has created a code development task which would block this configuration change task. (Because a configuration does not exist for this and hence cannot be changed, as no code exists which creates and allows such a configuration). So I am boldly declining this request.

This request could be reopened once someone creates a code development task and makes that code development task a subtask of this very task.
