Request creation of Zppix-Wiki-AI VPS project
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Project Name: Zppix-Wiki-AI

Purpose: for me to be able to work with Machine-Learning-Team , and the software they use for test and such (mw-vagrant) is not readily usuable on my machines, therefore i'm asking for a VPS project.
Wikitech Username of requestor: Zppix

Brief description of project: Development/testing instance for myself to work with patches related to my work as a volunteer developer, mostly Machine-Learning-Team tasks

How soon you are hoping this can be fulfilled: ASAP, but its not urgent so if you have more important things to do, by all means do that instead.

We will discuss in our weekly meeting next tuesday :)

Is this something that could be done within the existing ores project?

Broadly speaking, having a Cloud VPS project that is 'owned' a Foundation team (or a single person) is something that has happened in the past but that we try to avoid on a policy basis going forward. This biggest reason for this is that it can become very difficult to keep track of why a VM exists and if it is being used or not in such a project. We have seen this happen multiple times in the past.

It is also potentially problematic to be allocating VMs in the long term to support the work of a single volunteer contributor. A good use of a Cloud VPS instance is providing a shared service such as a testing wiki that multiple contributors in a focused project can use to collaborate on testing proposed changes. A poor use of our resources is providing a 'laptop in the cloud' for a single individual to use as a personal development machine.

I'll talk to them but I was asked to either setup mw-vagrant on my own machine (which due to requirements of mw-vagrant isnt possible for me) or to ask for a vps project, ill check to make sure ill keep you updated (fyi sorry for the delay i was unable to access phabricator due to my own internet issues)

which due to requirements of mw-vagrant isnt possible for me

Can you elaborate? Are you on a chromebook for example?

I've talked to scoring platform team and if all goes well i may end up using their testing instance they have in their vps project if so ill close the task but until then ill keep it open this that ok?

Can you elaborate? Are you on a chromebook for example?

No, my system specs do not meet the min requirements for vagrant/mw-vagrant

Closing as I have found another workaround with using ubuntu vm
