Description

MediaWiki talk:Gadget-Merge.js has got many reports from users who attempted to merge two distinct items and didn't succeed. It seems the gadget itself recommends doing so. We should have another way to explain what went wrong, perhaps a dedicated merge-FAQ page?

Actually the wording has changed back in 2018, and this, together with more detailed error messages from the API (T180296 / 77afa2c14ada), significantly reduced the number of such error reports. There are still such reports from time to time, but I’m not certain that this task is worth kept open.
