Lift IP cap for account creation for John Michael Kohler Art Center - Thur Sept 21, Sun Sept 24 & Tues Sept 26.
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

The Black Lunch Table is holding a series of editathons at John Michael Kohler Art Center in Sheboygan, WI in the tradition of our nomadic Wikipedia editing events. We would like to request a temporary lift of the IP cap for the location on Thur Sept 21 1:30-4:30 CPT, Sun Sept 24 2:30-5:30 CPT & Tues Sept 26 6:30-9:30 CPT. We are expecting roughly 20 people for each event.

Please do so for this IP: 47.44.110.178

FYI RSVP is here on our meetup page along with our history of events if you are interested: Black Lunch Table Events

We'd like the cap to be lifted on English Wikipedia and other projects if possible, since will include multilingual editing (primarily in Spanish and Hmong).

Thank you!

Note: this is my first Phabricator request for a Wikimedia project, so please feel free to let me know if you need more/less/other info.

Event Timeline

Hi @Heathart, thanks for the task - this is definitely enough for someone to lift the IP cap. Unfortunately, we often need a bit more notice, so I can't guarantee this will be done in time for Thursday September 21st.

I'll see if I can grab someone to get this done in time for Evening SWAT

Thanks for creating this ticket.
Please provide all the required information.
If you think your request has gone unnoticed and the event is about to start, go to the IRC channel #wikimedia-tech on Freenode IRC and ask for help (general information on using IRC).

The amount of participants would be nice to get @Heathart .

Dereckson added a subscriber: Kizule.

@Zoranzoki21 can handle this.

Thanks for the help! I think the information that is missing is the number of attendees? Thursday I'm expecting about 20 each of these dates. Please let me know if I'm missing anything more? Thank you!

So somehow the lift didnt work this morning. We were frozen out and I ended up adding users one by one through my Account Creator status which was fine but slow. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong. Would love to get this smoothed out before the next one on the 24th. Any clues what happened?

I posted a comment on the patch. The problem is that 192.168.50.52 is in the 192.168.0.0/16 private address space. You need to find out what the routable public address is. You might try visiting https://www.google.com/search?q=what%2Bis%2Bmy%2Bip from the Art Center's network. You could also try asking a steward or checkuser to find the ip that an account was created from that triggered the block previously.

Ok I asked the Art Center and they gave me this: 47.44.110.178 as a public IP. Hope that works!

Can this be deployed?

It definitely should have been, but that would have needed somebody to notice it and add it on https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Deployments to a SWAT window. Unfortunately this wasn't done, so it's not deployed. Considering that the mentioned timeframe is almost over, is there any point in still deploying it or is that worthless because the event is already over?
