Dragging an image to a new location caused it to disappear
Closed, ResolvedPublic0 Estimated Story Points

Description

What happened:

This image used to be in the lead, and now we have a better one for the lead. So I added a new lead image (adjacent to this one's origianl location), and then dragged the old one down the page, to be at the top of this section.

"This image" is a large blue Star of Life. You can (not) see it in the screenshot where the one-pixel-high horizontal gray line is.

Which article, and from exactly where did you drag from and to?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_identification_tag

The diff is https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Medical_identification_tag&diff=802673424&oldid=798950520 but is misleading, because I switched to the 2017 NWE to correct the disappearing image (except then I put it in the wrong section, so the next edit fixes it).

So: It started at the top, second only to the {{refimprove}} template. I dragged it down to the top of the ==Types== section. When I let go, the image disappeared. The horizontal line was persistent (which is why you have a screenshot of it). I checked the diff, discovered that the image had disappeared, copied the text from the old-style wikitext diff, switched to the wikitext mode, pasted it, discovered that it pastes <s>...</s> tags around each and every single word (let me know if you want a bug for that), pasted it into a plain text doc, re-copied it, re-pasted it, and saved the page.

I have wondered whether a key step might be first inserting the new image adjacent to the old one, rather than dragging the old one out of the way before inserting the new one.

Hmm, still can't reproduce so difficult to see what went wrong.

I can't reproduce it today. Also, the captions aren't disappearing today, either. Maybe it's been magically fixed?
