No obvious way to update documentation for page view stats, which is out of date
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

The page at https://dumps.wikimedia.org/other/pagecounts-ez/ is out of date, and it is unclear how to suggest changes to this page, hence logging this issue here. In particular, the page says that the prefixes for each row are (I quote) "one of b (wikibooks), k (wiktionary), n (wikinews), o (wikivoyage), q (wikiquote), s (wikisource), v (wikiversity), z (wikipedia)".

However, there are rows in the most recent -totals file (pagecounts-2017-09-views-ge-5-totals.bz2) with undocumented prefixes like en.d, en.m, en.m.d, en.zero It seems as if the .m stats correspond to mobile web views, but it is not clear to me what e.g. .m.d rows correspond to.

Event Timeline

You want to look here: puppet/modules/dumps/files/web/html/pagecounts-ez_index.html (i.e. https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/admin/projects/operations/puppet) and you likely want to ask @Erik_Zachte or the analytics folks about those abbreviations. Isee see our mailing list archives must have been edited in the meantime, so the link at the bottom now doesn't go anywhere useful, it should be https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2011-August/054590.html until the next time they are rebuilt.

Thanks. Probably worth mentioning the github repo on that page somewhere? I'm happy to submit a PR at some point.

Please do, and add the link to the repo if you like (let's get the analytics folks to sign off on that though, or make it a tiny font at the bottom, or something). :-)

Unobtrusive seems good. Will try to put something together in the next week or so.

I'm closing this ticket; when there's a patchset available for update, please feel free to open a ticket with the gerrit changeset in it :-)
