I suggest to close this task as Declined or at least not make it a blocker of T180853: Bring a discourse instance for technical questions to production , in order to reflect reality.
Declining as "nice but not likely to happen". Given the amount of effort we have already invested in Discourse (and given that worked OK so far), experimenting with alternatives looks less interesting at this point, and I have already overextended myself and have more important side projects ATM won't be able to spend time on this. I imagine potential weaknesses of Discourse compared to Q&A software will be around searchability, which is only really relevant when usage gets high, so we might reevaluate things at that point.
If anyone plans to work on this, please feel free to reopen.
