Description

Hello all, sorry to post here, but I don't know where to post about this problem!

One of ar.wikipedia users try many times to create a links between articles but she faced the same Error every time. She tried in many ways, e.g by wikidata itself, from en.wiki/arwiki..etc. I asked her to take a picture for the error message when she try to make a link. So what's your opinion?

Event Timeline

Could you exactly describe the steps used? Including article name of the article on arwiki and the article on the other wiki you are trying to link. Without that information it's pretty hard to find out what problem is. The error message doesn't help much.

@Mbch331 It's not specif to one or two articles! It's generalized issue with User:Rama.Bsha.
For example she faced this issue yesterday when she try to link this template (so I linked it to here as you see) + this one also.

If you see here that she faced the problem since 12 Nov. 2017

I tried to search about the explanation of the error message, but I can't find anything!

Another picture from arwiki.

Has she tried another browser? Logging out and logging back in again? Cleared the cache and cookies of the browser?

As javascripts / gadgets can be competing, has the user gone back to defaults, or used the quick means to neutralise gadgets and personalisation (and I cannot remember off the top of my head the quick means to do that).

@Mbch331 yes she tried another browser and cleared the cache. She told me now that she faced this problem just when she using her university computers! But when she using her personal laptop she not faced it!

note that she using the university computers more than her personal one!

Can she execute normal edits on Wikidata, like adding an statement?

@Sjoerddebruin I asked her before 2 days to try to send me message in my talk page. Also she told me that she can do anything in Wikidata except add links (links languages)

I think that is another problem, he tried to add a sitelink on Wikidata itself and added some badge together with it. Due to his low edit count, this triggers the abuse filter: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:AbuseLog/3591991

@Sjoerddebruin Oh Thanks.

Yesterday she added a link from her personal lap top, so I think the problem related to university computers!

Can you receive the IP address of those computers? Last thing I can think of is some IP block.

@Sjoerddebruin I don't think it'll be IP block, because she posted in my talk page from the university computer.

Good one! The popup is showing, so JavaScript is working. But I'm curious if the JavaScript console is showing something useful. Instructions here.

@Sjoerddebruin Aha, she told me now that she can't empty the cache because its not her personal one! so, what's now?

@Aklapper I think we can close this task.

As the user told me recently, that this issue due to internal system for the university computers.

@alanajjar: Why was this task reopened, and what are exact steps to reproduce the problem? :)
If the user is still affected by this, could the user check use safemode=1 and also debug=true in the URL and check the "console" of the web browser's development tools for any errors? See https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Locating_broken_scripts for more information. Thanks!

Aklapper renamed this task from Problem in (Add links) to "Error: ." shown when using "Add links" for specific user.Jun 10 2018, 7:18 PM

Hello, the same user send to me again, she can't user (Add link) button, and appear to her (Error: .)

I ask her to create this page on Wikidata, and she can create it.
Also, she face this problem only from her University Network, one of the IPs she used (and face the same problem from it) 86.188.249.71. I see neither local nor global block.

Also, she not use any scripts in her .js

Has the affected user tried [[ https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Locating_broken_scripts | safemode=1 ]]?

She tried that (as she said).

She face the problem only from the university network!

She face the problem only from the university network!

That almost sounds like maybe some ip-blocking problem?

But anyway, this was last updated almost 6 years ago. I'm closing it for now, but please reopen if the issue persists.
