Old Safari support
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Hello.
We received two emails on OTRS a few days apart from readers who could no longer access Wikipedia using old versions of Safari.
It wouldn't have surprised me to find a bug on phab indicating that support is no longer maintained for these old versions, but I didn't find anything.
Also, they are still indicated as maintained on https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Compatibility#Browser_support_matrix.

– Safari (5.1.10) (6534.59.10) / Mac OS 10.6.8
– Safari (?) / Mac OS X 10.5.8

Is it a bug or is it wanted ?

Please explain exactly what "no longer access" means. See https://mediawiki.org/wiki/How_to_report_a_bug

The webpage stays blank. The loading bar on the URL box dont move… Below, picture one of the users sent us.

Could an affected user please check where exactly things get stalled by taking a look at the network calls?
This requires using the web browser's developer tools. See https://developer.apple.com/safari/tools/
After opening them, please append ?debug=true to the address of the page on which you see the problem, if the address does not already include a ?. (If the address already includes a ?, append &debug=true instead).
There should be a "network" tab which shows all the resources that get loaded when loading that wiki page. Somewhere this must get stuck, and I wonder where.
Thanks!
