VisualEditor improperly fiddles with <references responsive/> tag
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

In this edit to the Anton Reicha article, the user was just trying to edit the lead section but the VisualEditor also made an edit to the references section. FWIW I'd never encountered the <references responsive/> tag before this; it was added to the article in this edit.

To be specific, the edit in question replaced <references responsive /> with <references />. In response to community request (T173176), the default references style on enwiki was changed to responsive. Both <references /> and <references responsive /> produce the same output on enwiki. The tag was added by the first editor before responsive became the default style, so back then it did actually change the output. The tag was removed because it is redundant, and produces no change in output. This is intended.

OK, thanks for letting me know. I've therefore self-reverted my edit on the article that changed <references/> back to <references responsive/>.

No problem! I'm happy to help. :-)
