Tabs inaccessible / unresponsive at Commons.Wikimedia using Firefox 52.6.1 (64-bits) LTS on Windows 7
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

Where? Commons.Wikimedia.org
What problem? Since today I can not use any tabs on Commons. I can see them, but clicking them does nothing. No problems on Wikipedia with using tabs. It occurs on file pages, user pages, also here in the Village Pump, but not while editing this message. There the Read and Show History tabs are accessible for opening by right clicking them.
Last time the problem did not occur? Yesterday
My webbrowser? Firefox 52.6.1 (64-bits) Long Term Service (LTS)
My Opreating System? Windows 7 (64-bits)
Did I install new software or updates recently? No
Does the problem occur using a different webbrowser? I tried Chromium and there the problem did not occur.
Possible JavaScript error? I looked at the Error Console in Firefox. There are some messages. I am pasting them:

  • SDK worker-child started as frozen on unexpected initial document.readyState Object { initialDocumentReadyState: "uninitialized", windowLocation: "about:blank" } worker-child.js:62

Hi, thanks for reporting this.
I don't see how there is any issue with the Wikimedia Commons website content if your browser software's user interface does not function properly.
That sounds like an issue in your browser software. Have you brought this up in a support forum already?

Aklapper changed the task status from Open to Stalled.Feb 15 2018, 4:53 PM

Oh, you refer to tabs on Commons, not in your browser. I am sorry, I misunderstood!

Please follow https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Locating_broken_scripts

No problem.
I can not open the View History tab to purge the webpage, so I used https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:King_William_II_of_the_Netherlands_in_1840.png**?action=purge**

When I use https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:King_William_II_of_the_Netherlands_in_1840.png**?safemode=1 **
then I can use the tabs!

Does this mean one of the addons/scripts from the Commons.Wikimedia interface is possibly broken?

See https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Locating_broken_scripts : "If you don't have the problem anymore using the safe mode, it means you have an issue with a user script or gadget. You have to identify the problem."

Disabling the default (Vector) skin of the Commons interface solves the error.
See: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences

Aklapper closed this task as Invalid.Feb 15 2018, 5:44 PM

Closing this task as it's a problem with custom code that is hosted on-wiki, and each community is responsible for their on-wiki code.

If this only happens with Vector then https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Vector.css might collide with some gadgets or user scripts that you use.
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Locating_broken_scripts explains how you could track this down, if wanted.

Thanks for your help. I will follow that new path.
