Here is a draft of the messages we will be posting on the Village Pumps (suggestions to improve messaging are welcome!):

From: The Education Team at WMF

Apologies for posting in English!

Over the years many issues have been discovered from our engineering colleagues regarding the Education Extension, including security concerns. For this reason, and with a viable alternative platform available, we are starting the process to deprecate the extension and having it uninstalled where it has been activated. This includes this wiki [[Special:Courses]].

This means that the following steps will be taken:

  1. New programs are discouraged from using the extension and encouraged to use the [Programs and Events Dashboard https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org].
  2. Current ongoing programs will be supported, until the month of June, 2018.
  3. On June 30, 2018, the Education Extension will be shut down.

If you are still running an education program that uses the Education Extension, please take the appropriate measures and also reach out to your colleagues and communities so they are also aware.

It should be noted that data of previous programs that ran on the Education Extension will remain safe, and we are working on documenting how to access that data.

Thus, we invite all Education Program Leaders (and users of the Education Extension) to take the [online training for the dashboard https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/training/learning-and-evaluation/set-up-wikipedia-education-program-course] so that you can benefit from this tool and make your work easier.

Did you know you can also use the P&E Dashboard at edit-a-thons, writing competitions, and other Wiki-based activities? [More training courses for the dashboard are available here https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/training], so take a look!

If you have comments or questions, please reach out to the education team at education{{a}}wikimedia.org or the Programs and Events Dashboard group at dashboard{{a}}wikimedia.org

If you use Phabricator, you can also go to: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T125618

Very clear and to the point, thanks. I suggest marking the message for translation so that the massmessage can be delivered in the native language of the corresponding wiki (same as eg. Tech News are delivered).

If you have comments or questions, please reach out to the education team at education{{a}}wikimedia.org or the Programs and Events Dashboard group at dashboard{{a}}wikimedia.org

I suggest that we also encourage questions asked directly under the post, e-mails could be a barrier.

Suggest a centralized page for questions on outreach.wikimedia.org, agree email-only responses are a limiting factor unless you set up role accounts and use Special:Email

Thanks for the helpful feedback! We're making some edits!

We can have that announcement posted on Meta and MassMessaged to the wikis using the extension via the Meta-Wiki bot. At the same time, if we post this at Meta, we can potentially send the notice translated to some wikis already. Does that sound like a valid option or course? Regards.

That sounds very efficient @MarcoAurelio!

@MarcoAurelio Where do you think we should put the message on Meta?

I can post the message there, and would you be willing to please help us with the mass messaging aspect?

We are setting up a table with the list of wikis that should be receiving the messaging on task https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T187576

@MarcoAurelio & @VMasrour-WMF
Please ping me when add it, I'll translate it to Arabic because many Education program leaders still using it on arwiki

Thanks @alanajjar ! This is much appreciated.

@VMasrour-WMF Well, I'd say we can start at https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=EducationProgram_extension_deprecation_announcement&action=edit&redlink=1

After the original annoucement in English is there, I can mark it for translation and arrange people to translate the text. Once we have translations, I can commandeer MassMessage to send the messages to selected village pumps.

Done! The page has been created as suggested.

Thank you very much for your assistance with marking for translation (and later massmessaging).

Fixed, marked for translation and Spanish translation posted.

We should create a list of wiki pages where the announcement must be sent.

Awesome! Thanks very much @MarcoAurelio !

The list is here, to the best of our knowledge, is complete: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T187576

Spanish Wikipedia has been notified.

Can we close this as per T187576#4036347 ?
