rhenium running out of disk space on /
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Looks like rhenium is on its way to finish disk space on /:

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
udev 16G 0 16G 0% /dev
tmpfs 3.2G 324M 2.9G 11% /run
/dev/md0 46G 42G 1.6G 97% /
tmpfs 16G 4.0K 16G 1% /dev/shm
tmpfs 5.0M 0 5.0M 0% /run/lock
tmpfs 16G 0 16G 0% /sys/fs/cgroup
/dev/md2 2.7T 37M 2.7T 1% /srv

About half of that 42G is taken by /var/lib/postgresql, which should be in /srv/ instead ?

Event Timeline

hm, it might be nice to have access to that space in /srv, but i don't think it's necessary right now. it looks like some extra space was already freed up earlier, and i've freed up more just now, so we're at 14G free on /dev/md0. I think we can close this ticket.

I would spend a bit of time trying to move /var/lib/postresql to /srv to avoid the recurrence of this issue, a root partition so small is not meant to keep database data in my opinion :)

I've deleted a 7.7G file and freed up some space. As for Postgres, it's for a temporary situation for a bit of a high-priority and unusual situation, so I'd ask to ignore that for a couple more months. rhenium is a very old box that we'll need to replace in the next 6 months anyway, so we can decide what to do with it when we do replace it.
