Civi: middle name field questions for dedupe
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Two questions about handling middle name or initial data during dedupe processes:

  1. Would it be possible to add the Middle Name field by default (& as an editable field in which to add data) to the merge interface? It would save us the separate step of manually adding the middle name or initial after the merge. Because the banners do not have any optional fields like middle name, we see lots of dedupe record pairs where one First name will have a middle initial tacked on, and the other will not:

  1. The Contact View and the Edit views for any given CID do not match. You only can see if there is a middle name or initial in the Edit view:

cid=83649 contact view.jpg (500×1 px, 101 KB)

cid=83649 edit view.jpg (704×1 px, 152 KB)

It would be helpful if the Contact View displayed the same data as the Edit view, to enable agents to see the middle name details without the extra step of clicking into Edit.

Event Timeline

Two possible requests (notes from DS call):

  1. Pop up tab to open contact record while on the merge screen--since you can click to edit there.
  2. Display middle initial in name on contact record

@MBeat33 @Eileenmcnaughton It's just a setting to add middle name to display name. However, we should confirm with @CCogdill_WMF that she isn't using contact.display_name because it would also add middle name to that token.

I'm using whatever first name and last name fields (mostly only the first
name, though; some countries like Japan get last name) are pulled into the
silverpop_export table from Civi. Not 100% sure which one that is :)

Change 435002 had a related patch set uploaded (by Mepps; owner: Mepps):

Eileenmcnaughton claimed this task.

I think we can resolve this 6 year old phab on the basis the edit-name is possible via the deduper interface
