Adding ranks to the map tooltip
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

It would be a good feature if the map tooltip also included "Rank: {rank here}". Since we already have that information, it would be a good addition for users who want to see how countries fare with respect to other countries.

This would also clear out any ambiguities caused by color differentiating only a wee bit. It would be a good add on for accessibility too as color-blind people can still know which country's ranking how, without needing to have to go through minute variation of the green color. Screen readers can also benefit from this IMO.

@mforns @Nuria would love to know what you think of this. If you give a go ahead, I'll work on it and submit my changes.

Milimetric moved this task from Incoming to Wikistats Beta on the Analytics board.

I think the "ranking" use case is thoroughly covered by the table view (change ot it on the top-right corner of the chart).
Do you think it is also needed in the map view?

@mforns yes. The ranking use case has been covered in the table view, but I think it is double work if the user quickly wanted to know. Also it is a lot more easier to just move the mouse over a country and know its rank than to go through the entire table looking for the country and then seeing it's rank.

Usability will improve a lot, I think. Would love to know what you think of this :)

I disagree that this is needed, rank is really not that helpful "as is" now. To be so metrics need to be contextualized (Number-of -pageviews-per-country/country-population) , at this time more populated countries will have a higher rank but that does not mean a project is more popular there, just that it has more pageviews.
