I can certainly handle +2 rights and merge generic patches like this, however I won't be able to spend as much effort as I did to familarize myself with the Variables extension. Please consider this if you want to add an additional maintainer. I probably won't be able to merge more specific patches than those.

I don't know about other people, but personally I fail to see in the task description the usual information about the proposed maintainer's coding contributions, so I would need to do some additional research to even start forming an opinion.

What Nemo said, as well as my reading of T193049#4162917 gave me the impression that MGChecker wasn't interested in serving as the maintainer.

If @MGChecker could confirm whether (s)he is still interested I think we could move forward faster I think? Thanks.

As I stated before, if I got these rights, I would use them to merge patches I can judge with my knowledge of the parser and similar extensions. However, I never contributed to these extensions and won't have the resources to do active development in the near future, as I focus myself on extensions with a heavier impact on the MediaWiki universe. If you think this suffices the demands you have on a maintainer, you're free to add me, if you don't think so, it's fine as well.

Even though I would use +2 permissions responsibly, I'm sure there are other people more experienced in code writing and review that could handle this job better.
